Re: Something is attacking my chooks
I had a problem like this many years ago and my Dad who has since passed away gave me a very cost effective and perfect solution, we got a piece of white polythene round pipe big enough for a ferret or stoat, rat to go thru, we placed it in the hole the animal had made (at that stage we didn't know ...

Re: Broody Hen V Incubator
Hi, i used a King suro last season with great results - it was a second hand one. this year I splashed out and bought a nice Brinsea that holds 86 eggs, and also a hatchmaker (Brinsea) still air one, it took me a while to get the hang of the right humidity to keep the still air one, but all 3 work r...

Re: Help! Baby wild duck found!
Hi - I once reared 14 baby grey ducks, my ex bought them home in his lunch bag as they had swum into his whitebait net (so he said) and no mum around, so anyway I lost a couple before I got hold of a bird/duck expert thru the SPCA in nelson and he told me to cook up some chook eggs, remove all the y...

Re: Quails & Chooks
Marina is right - you do need to keep them with smaller chickens if you are going to do that, mine were Sebrights, Slver spangled Hamburgs, gold pencilled hamburgs and Araucanas mixed with the quail, mine were the red mutant quail and Californian quail varieties.

Re: Quails & Chooks
Hi - I have actually hatchen both chickens and quail out and kept them together very successfully from the start. If anything the quail are quieter and less flighty whilst with the chickens, once I parted them at about 6 weeks of age the quail became quite flighty, but in answer to your question- ye...
